One for the books:

I had the pleasure of helping Jann Arden stand for Canada’s horses. It was a run and gun situation, but we pulled it off. I built an acoustic guitar pedalboard for her and had it eq’d beforehand, ready to go. For the video, I had everything locked off for camera position… up until the last second when suddenly everything had to be revamped for reasons out of my control… all my camera positions had to be changed literally as Jann was being introduced by Jody Vance. Having to abandon my audio recorders and hope for the best with those, I picked up one camera on a tripod and one hand-held, rushed to the front of the stage and started recording while adjusting cameras. In the meantime, I sent word back to the sound desk to get one of the guys to bring forward my other tripod and thankfully they did as the handheld camera as getting heavy. Now with two cameras on tripods, I grabbed my smaller, lighter rig and began filming with that, hand-held. With all those last second changes, I didn’t know what was going to come out in the end. Not a situation anyone wants to be in when filming a live concert for a Canadian icon, but it worked out ok.
